Recruitment






Recruitment is the process of finding and attracting most suitable and well-fitted applicants for a job vacancy in right time and for an effective cost. Similarly, it can be defined as the process of taking a right person with needed knowledge, skills and attitudes (KSAs) for the job to the right position at right time period with the right cost. It is most crucial function in HRM. (Devi & Banu, 2014).

Importance and purpose of Recruitment

  • To identify existing and potential job requisite.
  • To enhance the job pool in a cost-effective manner.
  • To reduce the possibility of short-term hiring.
  • To integrate the prospective employees with the organization.
  • Assist to evaluate effectiveness of the recruitment methods.
  • Finally, help to select most appropriate person to the job and organization (Tutorials Points, 2016).

@ Recruitment Planning- Analyzing and describing the vacancies and use job description to determine needed qualification, experience, and capabilities to perform the particular job and identify the factors affecting for recruitment. Recruitment plan includes,


Identify the factors affecting recruitment

Identify job vacancy – Determine the number of vacancies to be filled according to the requisitions coming from various department in the organization.

     Job Analysis – Determine the duties and responsibilities, abilities, and skills need for job using job description (JD) and job specification (JS).

Job evaluation- Estimating the value of job by job grading, ranking, etc.



@ Developing Strategies - In this stage determine recruitment strategies including make or buy employee, recruitment source, and types.

@ Searching the right applicants – This step involve with attracting the job applicants through external and internal sources.

@ Screening candidates – Shortlisting applications of the candidates for the selection process and eliminate unsuitable candidates from the process.

@ Evaluation and Control - Evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment process to determine cost and time incurred by the process, determine salary levels for employees and administrative cost, etc.





  • Invest in highly- trained and skilled recruiters.
  • Develop career web-sites such as Oracle.
  • Involving existing employees with the recruitment process.
  • Genuine job preview.
  • Create job post that reflect the organization.
  • Compliance with rules and regulations (equal employment opportunity) ( Luenendonk, 2019).
